A story of men and women who invest in a hotel marked by charm or an exceptional restaurant before joining forces to share their passion. Sixty years ago, Marcel and Nelly Tilloy, two former vaudeville singers who owned “La Cardinale”, a hotel and restaurant on the right bank of the Rhône, had the idea of presenting eight establishments together under the motto “La Route du Bonheur”. Eight authentic places between Paris and Nice, outside the cities, united by common values: a high level of services, an exceptional culinary and a particular conception of hospitality or Art de Vivre. This association is the birth of what has become today the most prestigious hotel association in the world: Relais & Châteaux. Today, there are over 560 members, located on 140 Routes du Bonheur in 67 countries, all inspired by the same passion: “The hotelier and the restaurateur must let their hearts speak,” recommended Marcel Tilloy. That was 60 years ago and is still valid.
